Kent Police warn people in Tonbridge to be wary of thieves following thefts in Cannon Lane and Swanmead Way

Opportunistic thieves in Tonbridge have prompted police to issue a public warning.

Cash, bankcards and an iPod are among the items stolen from cars during the last week.

A wallet, containing £50, a driver’s licence and bank cards, was swiped from a Renault Clio parked in Swanmead Way on Friday, April 11.

Thieves found the wallet hidden under a seat after realising the vehicle was unlocked.

Three days later an iPod was snatched from the dashboard of a Citroen Berlingo in Cannon Lane. The car had again was not locked.

Chief Insp Mark Hutcheon, Tonbridge district commander, said: “We are constantly looking at ways to deter and arrest those committing vehicle crime, but we also need members of the public to play their part.

“If you are leaving vehicles unattended for any time never be tempted to leave doors unlocked or any windows open, even during hot weather.”
