Tonbridge boss Steve McKimm pays tribute to released striker Nathan Elder

Crowd favourite Nathan Elder has been released after more than three years at Tonbridge Angels.

The big striker scored 65 goals after joining from Dover, initially on loan, and will be missed by the Angels faithful.

It was a tough decision for manager Steve McKimm, who has paid tribute to the 33-year-old.

McKimm said: "I can't speak highly enough of Nathan as a player and as a man - he's been fantastic for us.

"We're maybe looking to do something different next year and obviously players come and go.

"It's Nathan's turn this time and there'll be a couple of others.

"Nothing lasts forever but he's been excellent and it was only right we gave him a send-off.

"Without a shadow of doubt it was hard to let him go.

"Anyone who's been with you that long, it's a wrench to tell them they're no longer required but it's one of those where if you do it in the right way, you get the respect of the player and the player respects the club.

"It's not the end for him - he'll get another club."

Tonbridge lost 2-0 at home to Leatherhead in Elder's final appearance on Saturday and finished 11th in the Bostik Premier.

He had a farewell goal ruled out for a foul - unfairly in McKimm's view - but now it's on to planning for next season.

The Angels boss said: "There are quite a few players I want to keep but it comes down to what they want to do.

"Everyone's out of contract so we start with a blank canvas.

"I've made a few offers and I'd imagine all will be revealed over the next week or two.

"I'd like to get things sorted early but people don't seem to be in a rush to sign these days."
