Tonbridge Angels launch competition to join manager Steve McKimm in the dugout

One lucky Tonbridge fan will spend the final day of the season alongside boss Steve McKimm.

Angels are running a competition that will see the winner join the management team when they finish the Bostik Premier season at home to Leatherhead on April 28.

The full dressing-room experience is on offer, as well as the chance to be in the dugout.

McKimm, who came up with the idea, has promised there will no standing on ceremony.

He said: “We won’t hold back in the changing room, whether someone’s in there or not, because it’s an environment that we’re passionate about and they can see exactly how it works with the players and with us.

“We won’t be treading on eggshells, we’ll be treating it exactly as we do a normal game.

"Some will like it and like the idea of it, some will think it’s a publicity thing, but it’s not.

“We want the fans to see what goes on and hopefully they’ll get an insight.

“I just thought it was an idea that could get the fans involved, make some money for the club and show people how things are done and how professional we try to be.”

It costs £5 to enter, with tickets on sale before home games against Kingstonian (Saturday), Harlow (March 30) and Enfield (April 14).

The draw will be made in the clubhouse after the Enfield game.

The mood in the dressing room was low after Tonbridge conceded twice in the last two minutes to lose 2-1 to Worthing on Saturday.

Joe Turner gave Angels the lead midway through the second half but the hosts were rocked by goals from Zack Newton and Ben Pope.

McKimm, who saw Tuesday’s match against Billericay postponed due to a waterlogged pitch, said: “I didn’t rip the boys’ heads off because it’s one of those things, it happens in football.

“There’s no excuses, it’s happened and we’ve got to move on.

“It showed how much effort they’d put in and how devastated they were when they all collapsed on the floor.

“You hope it will never happen to you but it does.”

Angels host Kingstonian on Saturday and travel to Leiston for a rearranged game on Tuesday.
