Tonbridge manager Steve McKimm has board's long-term support after signing new contract

Steve McKimm got a massive thumbs up from the Tonbridge Angels board after signing a new deal.

The Ryman League Premier Division side are pushing for a place in the play-offs again and boss McKimm’s hard work has been rewarded with another season at Longmead after this one.

McKimm said: “They have shown faith in me and it’s good for them to have taken the lead rather than me asking them. They can see that I am doing something right.

“There will be ups and downs, football is like that. It’s never plain sailing but they have shown faith in me that I am doing a good enough job.

“We’re looking up at the play-offs at the moment and we just have to make sure we stay there and pounce when the time is right.”

Angels missed the chance to move into the play-off positions on Tuesday after a goalless draw with visiting relegation battlers Burgess Hill Town.

That followed a 3-1 home win over Hendon last Saturday.

McKimm said: “It was a good result at home and we were looking to build on that. It was disappointing because we had plenty of chances and just couldn’t finish. It’s two points dropped.

“It’s not often you get four clear-cut chances and you have to take one of them. If we had of got one then the game opens up and we could have won comfortably but they held firm.”

Tonbridge travel to 12th-placed Harlow Town on Saturday.

Mitchell Nelson missed the midweek match with a groin injury and Tommy Whitnell is likely to need a scan on an injured knee.
