Tonbridge manager Steve McKimm on their FA Cup defeat at Faversham

Tonbridge boss Steve McKimm had no complaints with the final result after his side crashed out of the FA Cup on Saturday.

Angels lost a Kent derby 3-1 at Salters Lane against lower-league Faversham despite dominating possession.

McKimm admitted that their hosts were more clinical where it mattered most.

“If you don’t take your chances and give silly goals away you are going to get punished,” said McKimm.

“We did it Bank Holiday Monday (at home to Folkestone) and we’ve done it now.

“I’ve got a lot of thinking to do so I’ll speak to the chairman and see where we go from here.

“We played well in stages but both boxes count. We had a lot more possession than them but we haven’t won the game.

“My proof is you can have as much possession as you want but they don’t always win you football matches. They were clinical in our box and we were rubbish in their box – simple as that.”

McKimm was particularly frustrated as two of the Faversham goals came from set pieces.

“You give them people to mark and it’s their responsibility,” he added. “You can’t do no more than have them watch and detail things to them.

“The other one is a 70-yard ball that has split the defence because we didn’t use the ball wisely enough in the first place.

“Fair play to them, they went 2-0 up. We clawed our way back into the game with a good finish by Andre.

“We kept plugging away and they’ve had two chances in the second half. But they’ve won the game and I can’t take nothing away from them.

“You say to them at half-time that the next goal wins the game and I was proved right on that as well as the next goal did win the game.

“If the penalty goes in there’s 10-15 minutes where we can go at them. We’ve had a one-on-one, a couple of headers, but that’s football.”
