Tonbridge manager Steve McKimm vows to win over disgruntled fans

Steve McKimm will do everything he can to win over Tonbridge fans after signing a new contract for next season.

McKimm knows some supporters feel he should be on his way after an indifferent Bostik Premier campaign.

But the board have confidence in their long-serving manager who is soon to complete four years in charge.

McKimm said: "I'm pleased the board have shown faith in me to carry on.

"This season hasn't gone according to plan but they still see something in me.

"They offered me a deal and I was only too willing to accept.

"Not everyone will be happy.

"The fan-base has dropped this season due to results and it's my job to get it back up and the only way you do that is by winning games of football.

"I'm not everyone's cup of tea, I know that, but it comes down to results.

"If you're winning games everyone likes you and if you're losing games people start to question you, which is the same in every walk of life.

"Next year is going to be a bigger challenge than the last couple of years but I'll work as hard as I can to try and be successful."

McKimm left his role as first-team coach at Sutton to take over at Longmead in 2014, leading Tonbridge to the play-offs in his second year in charge.

He said: "As a manager I've learnt a lot.

"I was brought in as a rookie, even though I'd done the groundwork as a coach and assistant at a higher level, but all the drama that comes with being a non-league manager was new to me.

"From organising training to games and getting a squad together, it's hard and certain people don't see and don't understand what goes into it.

"It can take over your everyday life when you've got a club to manage and you've got kids and a day job to hold down.

"It's very difficult but I wouldn't change it for the world. I enjoy the challenge."
