Tonbridge Angels may wait until the Ryman League Premier Division season starts before completing their squad.

Tonbridge may wait until the season starts to complete their squad.

They’re ready to bide their time with the Ryman League, Premier Division opener at Enfield just over a week away.

Coach Justin Luchford said: “We’ve got enough players to start the season but there’s room for a couple more. If you’re cute at this time of year, you probably go with what you’ve got and give it six weeks to see who’s on the bench not getting games.

“Nine times out of 10 the ones who become available are players you’ve already spoken to who wanted to play at a higher level.

“All of a sudden they’re not getting a look-in and they just want to play. We’ll see what happens. We’re always looking for players.”

Tonbridge beat Southern Counties East Fisher 5-0 in a friendly at Longmead on Tuesday night. Luke Blewden gave them a half-time lead, with Sonny Miles, Nathan Elder, Tommy Whitnell and Tom Parkinson on target after the break.

Luchford said: “It took us 25 or 30 minutes to understand how Fisher were playing. It wasn’t a standard 4-3-3. They were almost running into positions we’re not used to and taking a lot of risks.

“Ryman Premier teams are much more structured and you know what you’re up against but it was different against Fisher. Once we worked out how to manage the game we dominated.”

Angels complete their pre-season programme at Dorking on Saturday (3pm).
