Emergency crews called to Scotney Castle, Tunbridge Wells, after car crashes into tea room

Customers in a popular tea room escaped unhurt after a car ploughed into it.

Emergency crews were called to the National Trust's Scotney Castle in Lamberhurst, Tunbridge Wells, which attracts tourists from all over the world, after the white car crashed into the tea room.

An eyewitness, who was visiting the castle for the day, said an older driver had crashed into the building.

The man, who did not want to be named, said: "It looks as though they had been driving out of the car park and didn't turn right to leave but went straight into the tea room. I don't know how it happened.

"It was fortunate no one was hurt.

"They could have easily hit someone."

He added: "I was told no one is reported to have been hurt."

Police and ambulance crews were called to the scene.

A police spokesman said: "Kent Police received a report of a single-vehicle collision in Lamberhurst, Tunbridge Wells, at 3.28pm.

"Officers attended the scene along with the South East Coast Ambulance Service where a car had been in collision with the wall of a building.

"Minor injuries were reported."
