Colleagues of a man who spent months in a coma due to complications from surgery will stage a football match in his honour on Monday, May 4.

Father of three Nick Ryan, a parts supervisor for a Gravesend dealership, remains in recovery at a home in Tunbridge Wells after suffering serious brain damage and a seizure.

It is hoped money from the game will help provide him and his family with permanent care.

The match is set to see the Kent and Berkshire branches of the SMC Group go head to head and will take place at the Corinthian Sports Club, in Longfield, with kick off at 3pm.

Last year a similar event raised over £7,500 for the Evelina Children's Foundation.

Sonia Hobbs, marketing director at SMC Group, said: "This is an emotionally devastating time for his wife and children, and we are asking the community to join us in pledging our financial support to fund his care.

"The event is always fun, and I am overwhelmed by the way in which everyone comes together to raise as much money as possible.”
