Bill Dunn, from Tunbridge Wells, to face retrial over crash death of Edward Barlow in Southborough

A van driver accused of causing the death of an elderly pedestrian by careless driving is facing a retrial after the jury failed to reach a verdict.

Edward Barlow, 95, was crossing London Road near the junction with Springfield Road in Southborough on December 29 2014 when he was hit by the Ford transit driven by Billy Dunn.

Mr Barlow died at the scene despite being helped by doctors from nearby St Andrews Medical Centre.

Dunn, 20, of Liptraps Lane, Tunbridge Wells, denied the charge at Maidstone Crown Court.

After discharging the jury of seven men and five women today, Judge Jeremy Carey said the case could not be retried until March 13 next year because of a backlog of 750 cases.

Dunn was readmitted to unconditional bail.
