World Cup fans could face 12-month ban from pubs in Tunbridge Wells

Football fans could be facing up to a 12-month ban from pubs.

More than 50 pubs that are part of the Pubwatch scheme in Tunbridge Wells have teamed up with police to tackle violence and disruption during the World Cup.

The towns Community Safety Unit has promised quick response for anyone involved in violence or disorder. Anyone involved in this behaviour could face a long-term ban from pubs in the area.

The Pubwatch scheme currently covers 50 pubs, and all 24 members that are showing the games agree that violent or disorderly actions will not be tolerated.

The ban will apply to all member pubs in Tunbridge Wells for at least 12 months and will come into force with almost immediate effect.

Matthew Sankey, Pubwatch chairman said: "We have notices up in members’ premises making it very clear that customers who are involved in violent behaviour will be banned.

"We want customers to be able to come and enjoy seeing their team play in the World Cup in a safe environment.

"There will be no second chance for anyone who is involved in violent behaviour, a ban will be given."
