Flood alert issued for Rivers Eden and Eden Brook area

Forecasts of heavy rain over the next day have led to a flood alert being issued for parts of Kent.

The Environment Agency has put householders on alert for the Rivers Eden and Eden Brook areas.

Flooding is possible for those areas and Kent Ditch from Blindley Heath to Penshurst including Edenbridge and Hever.

A spokesman urged people to be prepared.

A statement said: "This Flood Alert is issued in anticipation of heavy rain forecast overnight on Sunday 29 April and into Monday 30 April.

"Water levels are likely to rise overnight in the Eden catchment.

"Flooding of low lying land and roads is possible during Monday morning rush hour, particularly in the Lingfield and Haxted Mill areas.

"River levels may continue to rise in the Edenbridge area throughout Monday. Surface water flooding is also likely.

"Further rain is forecast throughout Monday and not expected to clear until Tuesday 1 May. Flooding of property is not expected at this stage. We will continue to monitor river levels and update this message if the situation changes. "

The alert follows a yellow weather warning for rain and wind issued by the Met Office.
