Ambulance called to Royal Victoria Place shopping centre in Tunbridge Wells after escalator fall

Three pensioners have been taken to hospital after falling on an escalator at a Tunbridge Wells shopping centre.

The accident happened this afternoon in the Upper Mall at Royal Victoria Place.

A man and two women, all in their 70s, were treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to Tunbridge Wells Hospital in Pembury with head injuries.

Royal Victoria Place centre manager Nicky Blanchard said: "We can confirm that at 12.42hrs a member of the public lost their balance while on the Fiveways escalator, resulting in three members of the public receiving cuts and bruises.

"The customers were treated at the scene by the first aid team while paramedics were called and were subsequently taken by ambulance to the hospital for further checks.

"Although initially closed, the escalator was cleaned and is now fully operational."
