Britain's longest running family circus has brought its traditional circus with splashes of magic to Tunbridge Wells this week as part of a countrywide tour.

Paulo's Circus, founded in 1816, is set to dazzle audiences with clowns, acrobats, mexican magic and much more at Colebrook Park in Longfield Road from today until Sunday.

The show has been run by seven generations of the same family for nearly 200 years and has appeared alongside the stars in the ITV1 show The Circus.

Kenny Darnell Jnr started performing in his family's circus as a clown when he was three and moved on to aerial acts at the age of 12.

His act was a stunt performed on a 40ft steel structure resembling to giant revolving hamster wheels.

Kenny, 26, said: “It’s the most dangerous thing you can do in our business. Only four people in the UK do it at the moment.”

His career included an appearance in the Wheel of Death on the ITV show Red or Black in 2011.

Kenny retired from performing three years ago but has remained with the circus doing its publicity.

He said: “We put a lot of passion and love into the show. This is our lifestyle, it’s been our lifestyle for as long as we can find back in our family tree and I believe that’s what sets us apart from other people. It’s a great family experience.”
