AN INVESTIGATION is continuing into why a two-storey high supermarket wall collapsed into an adjoining street.

The 30m long wall of the Tesco store in Grovsenor Road, Tunbridge Wells, fell down in the early hours of Saturday morning, blocking adjoining Hanover Road with rubble.

Emergency services went to the scene after being called by nearby residents shortly before 3am.

No-one was hurt in the accident, and no-one was believed to have been in the supermarket building at the time.

Firefighters from Tunbridge Wells and Rusthall attended the scene to assist with the clearance of the road.

Road diversions were set up around Hanover Road and remained in place throughout Saturday morning.

Police have ruled out speculation that a gas explosion was the cause and say there are no suspicious circumstances.

Structural engineers from Tesco and Tunbridge Wells Borough Council remained at the scene on Saturday attempting to asses the cause of the collapse.
