The Royal Victoria Place in Tunbridge Wells will host a special event commemorating the centenary of the First World War next month.

The evening is also set to feature special effects including a black-out and air raid sirens followed by the last post played by burglers from TS Brilliant.

The night will close with a premier performance of The London Ballet Company's WW1 themed production 'Poppy', which opens at The Bridewell Theatre in London later in October.

It has been produced to portray the havoc wreaked by global war on people seen through the eyes of an innocent child.

Director of The London Ballet Company, Sophie Francesca Wright said: “The London Ballet Company is absolutely delighted to be engaging in this community commemorative event with our friends at Royal Victoria Place and The Royal British Legion.

"‘Poppy’ is our small contribution to show our respect to all those brave souls which were lost during the First World War and we hope that it will help to raise lots of money for this extremely worthwhile cause.”

Organiser of the event and marketing manager for Royal Victoria Place, Marc Burchett commented: “We want our ‘Poppy Event’ to be an uplifting commemorative event which showcases the talents and passion of our young community and demonstrates the importance of our past history and our future.

"I am hoping this event will be bursting with the energy of our local young people at the same time as being an appropriate tribute for all ages to remember our local fallen heroes from WW1" - Marc Burchett

“We are also very grateful to the many companies and organisation who have kindly supported this event by offering their time or donating services for free, without this community spirit we would be unable to make this event a reality, so a big thank you to everyone.”

The event will be held at Royal Victoria Place on Monday, October 6 between 7.30pm and 9pm.

Tickets can be purchased from the concierge desk on the second floor of Royal Victoria Place.

All proceeds from the sale of tickets will be donated to support the valuable work of The Royal British Legion.
