Tunbridge Wells woman dies after falling from bridge onto A21

A woman has died after falling from a bridge onto the carriageway below.

Police were called to the A21 at Sevenoaks at around 3.30pm yesterday following reports of a woman having fallen from the bridge.

A spokesman for the force has now confirmed a woman in her 50s, from Tunbridge Wells, has sadly died.

The section of road between the A25 for Riverhead and Morleys Roundabout for Hildenborough was shut for more than five hours and traffic was halted as officers dealt with the incident.

A Kent Police spokesman said: "We were called at 3.37pm on Monday following reports that a woman had fallen from a bridge over the A21 near Sevenoaks.

"Officers and South East Coast Ambulance Service attended the scene where it was confirmed a woman in her 50s from the Tunbridge Wells area had died.

"Her next of kin have been informed.

"The death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be completed for the coroner."
