Armed police stormed a house in Hawkhurst after reports a man in the property had a gun.

Officers were called to a domestic incident yesterday in Fairview, a small cul-de-sac off the High Street, where they arrested a 50-year-old man. He is still in custody this morning.

A police spokesman said: "It was reported that a man may be in possession of a firearm and to ensure public safety authority was given for firearms officers to attend.

"To further ensure public safety a road closure was enforced near the scene.

"There was no wider threat to the rest of the community."
