Headcorn: Man rescued after falling from rowing boat and becoming stranded on pond island

A man who became stranded on an island in a garden pond after falling from a rowing boat had to be rescued by fire crews.

Crews were called to a garden in Biddenden Road in Headcorn just after 9.30am on Friday morning.

Two firefighters wearing dry suits waded across to the island and helped the man back on to the boat, before bringing it back to the shore.

The man was given a precautionary check, and advised to change into warm dry clothes, but was unhurt.

It comes just days after Kent Fire and Rescue Service issued a water warning when five people were rescued after going swimming in the River Medway.
