A229 in Cranbrook closed after five car crash

Drivers were caught up in long delays after a five-car pile up in Cranbrook this afternoon.

Emergency crews raced to the A229 following the major collision at 3.25pm.

The road was closed and traffic diverted.

Earlier a spokesman for the force said: "The crash is reported to have taken place close to the Wilsley Pound Roundabout.

"Officers are currently at the scene and crews from the South East Coast Ambulance Service and Kent Fire and Rescue Service are also in attendance.

"A road closure is currently being enforced."

It is not yet known how many people are injured or how serious their injuries are, but the police spokesman said injuries "are described as non-life-threatening."

The road was reopened at 5.46pm.
