Southeastern trains suspended between Paddock Wood and Ashford International after person reportedly hit by train

Rail services between Paddock Wood and Ashford International were suspended after a woman was hit and killed by a train.

Emergency services were called to the line near Paddock Wood railway station at about 4.30pm, following the tragedy.

Services at Paddock Wood have resumed towards Ashford, and trains are now running between Paddock Wood and Strood in both directions.

Delays are still affecting services between Charing Cross and Ashford.

Trains were diverted at Maidstone East and replacement buses have been arranged.

Network Rail and British Transport Police (BTP) are at the scene.

A BTP spokesman said: “We were called to the line close to Willow Lane to reports of a person being struck by a train.

"Colleagues from Kent Police and South East Coast Ambulance Service also attended and a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and officers are now working to identify the person and inform their family.

“A file will be prepared for the coroner.”

Affected Southeastern customers have been told they can use their tickets for free on the Underground to get to other London terminals.
