The statement reads: "The school will be closed to pupils and visitors today and will reopen as normal on Monday.

"The school will remain closed today following a break in earlier this morning. Our colleagues are waiting to tidy, organise, repair and replace school property as soon as Scenes of Crimes Officers have completed their forensic examination."

A police spokesman said: "Kent Police was called at 4.45am today to reports of a burglary at Paddock Wood Primary School.

"It was reported the offenders forced their way in through the main entrance. Inquiries are ongoing."

A spokesman for Kent County Council added: "The extent of the damage means the school remains closed.”
