Tonbridge Philharmonic Concert

Formed in 1946, the Tonbridge Philharmonic Society is a vibrant part of musical life in the West Kent area.
Made up of a friendly mixed voice choir and orchestra, the society works hard to provide exceptional performances, under the professional baton of illustrious Music Director Matthew Willis. It performs up to five concerts each season - two are orchestral.

The programme feature

Copland: In the Beginning Bernstein: Chichester Psalms Verdi: Four Sacred Pieces

Verdi, writing at the end of his life, had lived through the war of 1859, which resulted in the unification of Italy. His settings of the Latin liturgy for his Four Sacred Pieces refer to the immutable in a world that has forsaken the status quo for chaos and mutation. In the Beginning and Bernstein's Chichester Psalms also borrow from sacred works of the Christian and Jewish traditions.
