Three neolithic burial tombs will be among the landmarks on the next walk organised by Geoff Rambler. In partnership with What's On, the latest ramble takes him around Addington near West Malling.

Three of the country’s oldest landmarks are the focus of this month’s What’s On walk.

The Medway Megaliths are huge stones that were moved between 2500-1700 BC and were part of neolithic, chambered long barrows, which were ancient burial tombs.

On the east side of the River Medway are Kit’s Coty House, Little Kit’s Coty House, the Upper White Horse Stone, and the Coffin Stone. On the west side are the Coldrum Stones, Addington Long Barrow, and the Chestnuts Long Barrow.

Geoff will lead a walk from Addington to the Coldrum Barrow, before returning to the Chestnuts and Addington Long Barrow.

He said: “Not many people know this area is second in importance to Salisbury Plain when finding out about our neolithic ancestors.”

The three and a half mile route will also pass the site where BBC TV series Dr Who was filmed in 1968, when the Doctor landed to save Earth from The Dominators.

Geoff will be joined by Addington resident Joan Bygrave, who raises money for the Kent Ambulance by giving guided tours around the stones, and will share her knowledge with the group.

The walk and tour are free but a collection will be taken at the end for the Air Ambulance.

The walk starts at the Angel Inn, Addington, near West Malling, at 10am on Saturday, June 1. Visitors are asked to park in Park Road.
