The Drifters live at the Orchard Theatre, Dartford

Although there may not be any original members left in The Drifters, the careful attention means each member not only looks and sounds like his predecessors but also spends at least a year learning the history of the band.

The band members, who are still managed by the family of joint founder George Treadwell, work as understudies until they can join the full line-up.

Founded in June 1953 by George Treadwell and Ahmet Ertegun – the man behind of Atlantic Records – there has since been more than 65 vocalists, including Ben E King and Johnny Moore.

The Drifters have sold more than 214 million singles and 114 million albums and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988.

The current line-up is Michael Williams, Ryan King, Daniel Bowen-Smith and Jerome Bucknor.

They’ll be bringing their smooth moves and tracks such as Under the Boardwalk and Saturday Night at the Movies to Dartford’s Orchard Theatre on Saturday, July 30.
