Busted returned to the stage in style last night as they seamlessly combined new songs from recent release Night Driver and tracks from their first two albums.

Scores of 20-somethings descended on the Leas Cliff Hall to see the pop legends at a sold out show, supported by New Forest band Natives.

The room was filled with screams and emotions ran high as Charlie Simpson, Matt Willis and James Bourne strolled onto the stage on the fifth date of their two-month tour run.

Opening with a new song could have proved a risky move, but Kids With Computers went down a storm set against simple-yet-classy staging, with LED columns, strobe lights and clean cut instruments.

Busted have created a fresh new sound to try and shake off the schoolboy vibes from the early noughties and it works - with stunning saxophone interludes and synthesizer sounds, their new music is a throwback to the 80s, but with a twist.

Since their split in 2005, the band have obviously rekindled their love for music, running through their immense back catalogue of hits, including Crashed The Wedding and Year 3000, with blatant delight.

Their boundless teenage energy is definitely still there, but there were no trademark jumps into the air from the boys.

Matt, James and Charlie's new adult music retains the charm of their old material and as they blazed through new songs including On What You're On, it was clear the fans still loved them.

Night Driver, which was released in November last year, took centre stage as they rattled through I Will Break Your Heart and New York.

As predicted, a lot of the audience seemed to just be there for their older hits and thankfully the set list reflected this, with scores of classic pop anthems blasting from the trio.

Last night's show was a far cry from their McBusted days, and gave me the grown-up musicality and on-stage chemistry I felt their shows without Charlie sadly lacked.

I've always been more of a McFly fan myself (sorry!), but Busted still hold a dear place in my heart, having been the soundtrack to my early teenage years and I'm so pleased that my expectations were met last night.

It's hard for a band to spring back after almost a decade hiatus, but they've done it, and they've done it well.
