Camel racing at Chilham Castle near Canterbury plus an appearance by the War Camel

They have thick eyelashes, long legs and can be a bit grumpy.

Camels will be legging it for an annual race this weekend.

Racing camels from the Wild Camel Protection Foundation in Benenden will be racing at Chilham Castle on Sunday, September 4 for a day devoted to the majestic creatures.

There’s the chance to ride a camel, watch Mongolian wrestling and archery and taste some camel milk ice cream.

Also making an appearance will be the foundation’s War Camel, inspired by the puppetry used in the West End stage show War Horse.

Entry is £5, with under-12s free. Gates open at 1pm, with races starting at 2pm.
