Canterbury: Sir Tom Jones to play the Spitfire Ground, home of the Kent County Cricket Club

Despite being a music legend in his 70s, it’s not unusual to find Tom Jones performing live on stage for thousands of adoring fans.

He wowed the crowds at Bedgebury Pinetum in Goudhurst last summer for a Forest Live! concert and he will be at the Kent Spitfire Ground in St Lawrence, Canterbury, tonight.

It is his first visit to the city as a performer.

With his distinctive voice he has sold more than 100m records worldwide, which has earned him a place as one of the best-loved artists to emerge from the 60s, notching up hits such as Delilah and It’s Not Unusual.

He said: “I am really looking forward to coming to the lovely cathedral city of Canterbury.

“I love doing outdoor shows and being able to perform at the Spitfire Ground is fantastic. It promises to be a great night so I hope everyone comes out to enjoy this show in this beautiful venue.”

He brings with him two young protégés, his The Voice finalists Into the Ark.

The Welsh singing duo, Taylor Jones and Dane Lloyd came second on the ITV show and bonded with their mentor during the contest.

Tom will perform a collection of his hits from across the decades, while Into the Ark will be warming up the crowds ahead of his performance.

The show follows on from The X Factor stars Olly Murs and Louisa Johnson's gig at the Spitfire Ground last night.
