The scientific facility, which opened in 1913 and is renowned for its fruit research, will offer tractor tours, self-guided walking tours and escorted laboratory tours throughout the day.

Staff will also give demonstrations on subjects including extracting DNA from plant material and creating new varieties of plants.

Visitors can take along pest-infected or diseased parts of fruit plants to have the problem identified by the skilled team of scientists in the Plant Clinic.

Step back in time with a replica of an East Malling lab in 1913, and there will also be fun for youngsters including an interactive game to show how insects smell.

The event runs from 10am to 4pm on Saturday, September 14.

Admission is £3 for adults, £1 for under 16s and £8 for a family. Call 01732 843833.
