Enjoy A Weekend With Doris Day at Canterbury’s Gulbenkian Cinema.

Four films starring the Hollywood legend are being screened to mark the launch of new book Doris Day Confidential by Tamar Jeffers McDonald, reader in film at the University of Kent.

The programme begins on Friday, September 27 with a screening of the romantic comedy classic Pillow Talk. It starts at 6pm, and will be preceded by a talk entitled How Doris Day Became a Virgin after Marriage by Dr Jeffers McDonald.

On Saturday, September 28, belt out your favourite tunes in a special sing-along showing of western musical Calamity Jane at 2.30pm. It will be preceded at 1.30pm by The Real Calamity Jane: Heroine of the Hills, a talk by Dr Karen Jones, lecturer in American studies at the university.

And on Sunday, September 29, lavish melodrama Magnificent Obsession will be shown at 11am, preceded by It Will Be A Magnificent Obsession: Popular Fiction, Popular Sentiment and Popular Acting by Dr John Mercer of Birmingham City University.

Alfred Hitchcock classic The Man Who Knew Too Much will bring the event to a close at 6.45pm, introduced by Dr Jeffers McDonald.
