More hop-related fun is on offer at Kent and East Sussex Railway's 14th annual Hoppers Weekend.

Thousands of Londoners used specially timetabled trains to travel down to the county and pick hops.

It has been 55 years since the last Hop Pickers Special arrived at Bodiam station, in Robertsbridge, East Sussex and KESR holds an annual two-day celebration to mark the occasion.

Visitors will be able to see a recreated hop garden and hopper’s hut where pickers would have stayed, sometimes for as long as six weeks.

Memorabilia will be on display at the station, together with period cars, tractors and steam driven road vehicles and an open top heritage double-decker bus will make trips between Bodiam station and Bodiam Castle.

The event is open from 10.30am to 6pm on Saturday, September 14 and Sunday, September 15.

Tickets including return train travel to Bodiam are £16 for adults, £11 for children aged three to 15 and £45 for a family. Call 01580 765155 or visit www.kesr.org.uk
