Bach to Baby classical concerts in Canterbury, Whitstable and Rochester

Babies bouncing to nursery rhymes is nothing new, babies bouncing en masse to the best of classical music certainly is.

But mums tired of Cbeebies and wall-to-wall pop can set their offspring on the path to musical enlightenment thanks to an exciting new project, Bach to Baby.

The classical concert series for babies, children and parents was founded in 2011 by pianist Miaomiao Yu who was fed up not being able to take her children to the sort of quality classical concerts that she enjoyed as a musician. Bach to Baby believes children can enjoy exceptional live classical music from their very earliest moments.

Now Kent families can expect outstanding musicians from the country’s top concert stages performing for them in inspiring venues right on their doorsteps.

Rochester bassoonist and mum of two young boys, Alexandra Callanan is thrilled to be bringing the series to the area.

Alex has performed with many of Britain’s best orchestras including BBC Symphony Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic, and Welsh National Opera.

She said: “Music plays an important role in the development of children’s imagination, memory, cognitive skills and musicality so I believe quality live music should be available to all, including the babies and young children of Kent.”

Miaomiao said: “It’s about Mozart and Bach, feeding and crying, and dancing to music – all of it. We haven’t made it through a concert without at least one nappy change.

“We take care of everything a family needs, a warm welcome, baby friendly facilities and not forgetting fabulous coffee, so every concert is a memorable treat.”
