Alan Rickman isn't famed as a director, but this film really shows the imagination of a man who has stood on both ends of the lense.

Set in the brilliant gardens of 17th century Versailles, this film wittily argues against the stupidity of oppression, and the beauty found within the overgrown, wild and unknown.

An aging aristocrat discovers a marvelously talented garden designer; but there is one problem. She’s a woman.

Fighting against the snobbish and absurd society around her with the support of an eccentric duke, this is a lovely film to lighten up a wet weekend.

Starring Stanley Tucci, Alan Rickman and Kate Winslet, this will warm the hearts of any history or costume lover.

Did you know? This is Alan Rickman’s second time directing; he hasn't been on this side of the camera since 1997 with The Winter Guest.

Is it for me? If you like gentle plots but with a theme of outrage, then this is for you. If you didn't like The Duchess or Mr Turner it’s best not to get your hands dirty.
