#FindtheChick and win some great prizes for Easter 2015 with Explore Kent and the new website ExploreKent.org

Getting away to the great outdoors used to be an excuse to leave technology at home but the selfie craze has proved even Kent’s great walks are not out of its reach.

Explore Kent, the partnership set up by Kent County Council to promote getting outdoors and active, has launched a new website with a campaign set to have youngsters fumbling for their phones as they navigate the natural world.

#FindTheChick is an Easter-themed crusade designed to drum up support for the new-look ExploreKent.org.

Walkers who find an image of the spring chick at one of 15 locations around the county can put themselves in the running to win big prizes by posting a selfie with the chick on social media.

The giveaway includes a bikes, a GoPro camera, a Canoe Wild experience, free passes to Kent attractions and selfie sticks.

“We want to inspire people to go outside and explore Kent and we realised something based around parks and open spaces would be a good idea,” said Explore Kent’s project officer Hannah Peck.

“Most people don’t know the woods on their doorstep and the website, along with this campaign, is designed to inspire people to get active and get outdoors.

“With Easter around the corner, the chick seemed appropriate. We will be promoting it through social media and on the website. Each location with a chick will tell visitors all they need and try to get them involved.”

Previously part of the Kent County Council website, Explore Kent’s new stand alone online home has more than 400 suggestions for activities, the majority of which are free.

Its previous domain was the second most-viewed section of the council’s website, originally put together by the authority’s public rights of way team.

The new site was funded by a £58,400 European grant and designed by Red Bullet, a research-led web development agency based in Faversham.
