Review: Elbow at Bedgebury Pinetum in Goudhurst for Forest Live!

"Beautiful smiling faces coming together to celebrate music."

That's how the charismatic Guy Garvey described the crowd at the Bedgebury Pinetum in Goudhurst last night - and what a show they put on.

On what was one of the hottest nights of the year so far, Elbow, who released their seventh album Little Fictions earlier this year, took the audience on a journey with their set list.

They allowed people to either sit back and enjoy every note being played or dance away near the stage with glow sticks.

They eased us in gently by performing Any Day Now and intertwining other old favourites from their back catalogue such as The Bones of You and Mirrorball.

Magnificent the most recent track from their latest album was both stunning and atmospheric as the sun began to go down.

Being from Manchester, Guy later paid tribute to the 22 killed in the recent terror attacks at Manchester Arena by singing another classic Station Approach.

A song taken from his third album, which as he's previously admitted is inspired by the city, his home. You couldn't help but have a tear in your eye.

By the time the opening chords to One Day Like This resonated across the grounds everyone was up, singing at the top of their lungs.

A song many had been waiting for all night, bursting to the forefront of everyone's attention after being performed at the closing ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics.

The evening was perfectly wrapped up with both Lippy Kids and Grounds for Divorce being the encore. Leaving us all wanting more.

The whole night had a festival feel about it. People from all walks of life and ages there. Couples, families, groups of friends with picnics, beer and Prosecco all enjoying the ambient atmosphere the location created.

As the song protests, it was "Magnificent". Take a bow, Elbow.
