Tickets to see Helen Mirren reprise her award-winning portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II in West End play The Audience sold out within hours.

But now Kent theatregoers have a chance to see the show, as it is being broadcasted live at Canterbury’s Gulbenkian.

Mirren won an Oscar for her role in 2006 film The Queen, and she reunites with screenwriter Peter Morgan for this production.

For 60 years the Queen has met each of her 12 Prime Ministers in a private weekly audience at Buckingham Palace.

Both parties have an unspoken agreement never to repeat what is said, not even to their spouses.

The Audience breaks this contract of silence – and imagines a series of pivotal meetings between the Downing Street incumbents and their Queen.

See the show live at 7pm on Thursday, June 13. A recorded broadcast will also be shown at 6pm on Sunday, June 23. Tickets £15. Call 01227 769075.
