Maidstone musician Jeffrey Vaughan Martin to be remembered with a concert featuring more than 250 performers

A concert remembering popular Maidstone musician Jeffrey Vaughan Martin, who died last year, will be staged this spring.

Organisers say they have had an "overwhelming" response from local musicians - and those from outside Kent - wanting to be involved in a concert to celebrate the musical contribution Mr Vaughan Martin made in his lifetime.

Some 250 are set to take part in the concert, Celebrating Jeffrey - A Life in Music, at Mote Hall, Maidstone, on Sunday, March 19, at 3pm.

They will form the JVM All Stars – an orchestra of more than 80 players, and the JVM Choir – a choir of more than 170.

The one-off event will feature many groups Mr Vaughan Martin had been involved with, including MYMS, Maidstone Choral Union, Maidstone Singers, West Malling Community Choir plus special performances by Paul Beniston, Fraser Bowles and Evelyn Glennie.

The music chosen specially include favourites of the renowned musician and conductor, including the Dambusters March, Finlandia by Sibelius and The Heavens are Telling from The Creation by Haydn.
