The best car boot fairs in Kent

Addington: Meadow Crest Farm, London Road, near West Malling ME19 5AR

One of the longest running events around, this event just off the A20 close to West Malling Golf Club can usually be relied on to be one of the biggest Saturday morning boot fairs in the county. Now in its 17th year, there's a large parking area, toilets and refreshments. Entry for buyers is 50p with children free. Pitches cost £11 for cars, £13 car and trailer and £14 for vans. Sellers from 6am and there's no need to book. Buyers from 7.30am. Trestle tables are available for hire at £2 plus electric testing is available. Ashford: Monument Way, Orbital Park TN24 0HB

Thousands of people make their way to Orbital Park every Sunday to visit the Ashford boot fair. Each week, more than 150 stallholders display their goods, including plants, clothes, tools and wool, at the site, which is also home to the Ashford livestock market. Parking is free, as is entry. There are also food stalls and a cafe. Stallholders can arrive anytime form 5am, and shoppers from 6am. Pitches cost £10 for a car or £15 for a van. Canterbury: Wincheap Park and Ride, Ten Perch Road CT1 3TQ Takes place in the Canterbury park and ride at Wincheap every Sunday. Sellers arrive at 7am and buyers at 7.30am. No lie-in for thousands of people in the area. Instead it’s up at the crack of dawn and head off to one of several boot fairs. The Greenfield family have been running the sales for more than 30 years and these days they alternate between two venues: Anthonys Way, Upnor and Beechings Way, Gillingham. They are the biggest fairs in Medway. There is plenty of parking available on both sites. Pitches costs £10 for a car, £13 for small vans and £15 for larger vans. Sellers can arrive from 6am. Hempstead: Broomfield Farm, Hempstead Road ME7 3QL

Hythe: The Green, off Portland Road CT21 4PS

Fourteen big Sunday boot fairs a year are held on The Green between April and September. They are arranged by Hythe Town Council and orgainised by different local charities and voluntary organisations who receive the proceeds. They take place from 7am to 2pm and attract hundreds of buyers. Sellers are charged £10 per car or £15 for larger vehicles or cars with trailers. Hythe: Hythe Cricket & Squash Club, The Grove CT21 6AX

Go along and make your own mind up if this popular event lives up to its name. The 'Best Boot Fair' takes place every week just a few miles outside of Maidstone. There's toilets, refreshments and scores of bargain hunters. Pitches cost £10 per car or £12 for vans and trailers. Buyers pay £1 entry. The fair opens to sellers from 6.30am and to buyers from 7am. It runs every Sunday from April through until October.

Leysdown: Leysdown Road, Sheppey

The biggest boot fair on the Island takes place on Sundays and bank holiday Mondays.

The event - which started in 1992 - attracts hundreds of people every week. It runs from

6am until 1pm. There's also a vast range of stalls and attractions including fortune tellers, ice cream vans, pony rides and nick-nak sellers. Pitches cost £10 for cars and £15 for vans. Entry is free for the public. More details on 01795 510887.

Rainham: Westmoor Farm, Moor Street ME8 8QF

Another long-established boot fair is run by Westmoor Farm in Rainham. Between March and June, they are held in the Otterham Quay Lane field and from July to October to the Lower Rainham Road field. Sellers are charged between £10 and £13 depending on the size of vehicles. The fairs are held every Sunday, but Westmoor say it is advisable to make sure there are no changes to the timetable. Southfleet: One Tree Field, Fox Hounds Lane (off Station Road) DA13 9LH

Sellers arrive from 11am. There is no need to book - just turn up. Cars £10, vans £15, walk ins £6, or book online at www.boot-sales.com and save £2. Buyers from 11am. Entry costs 50p on foot. Parking on site is £1. The field is on the B262 just past Millbrook Garden Centre, between Southfleet and Gravesend.

Swanley: Pedham Place BR8 8PP

One of the county's biggest weekly boot fairs. Sellers arrive between 6am and 10am every Sunday, but the earlier the better. There is no need to book - just turn up. Cars and small vans £13, large vans £20 with trailers £2 extra. Caravan and boat sales welcome. The gates open to the public from 7am to 2pm. Just off the M20/M25 interchange, there's plenty of parking (£2) plus toilets, refreshments, picnic areas and other attractions. More details at www.smbbootsales.co.uk

Tilamanstone: Barville Farm, near Dover CT15 5BQ

One of East Kent's most popular events, it takes place every Sunday from 6am. It costs £10 per pitch and entry is by vehicle only. Admission fee is charged.
