Maidstone: Kent Police open day with demonstrations, police dogs and crime solving

Spending time in police cells didn’t deter thousands from going to a Kent Police open day last year.

Record numbers – around 11,000 – turned out for the annual open day when one of the attractions is to spend time in the cells – purely for educational purposes.

Visitors can also see crash investigations, police dogs and learn how crimes are solved.

This year it is on Sunday, July 2 from 10am to 4pm and includes a range of demonstrations, the chance to learn about working with other emergency services to keep Kent’s roads safe and learn about some of the county’s most newsworthy crimes – and the lengths criminals go to to evade the law.

The event is held at the Kent Police College complex in Coverdale Avenue, Maidstone, behind Morrison’s and next to headquarters.

There will be limited free public and disabled parking, and the chance to buy refreshments.

No tickets are needed, but visitors are asked to join the Facebook event page so organisers can gauge numbers.
