Mother's Day 2017 in Kent: treat Mum with cream teas, days out and events

The castle has a special weekend laid on for Mum on Saturday, March 25 and Sunday, March 26. Children can decorate a flower pot to give mum on her special day in a free craft workshop and can also join a biscuit decorating workshop, at £1.75 extra. There's also lunch or afternoon tea, which needs to be pre-booked, in the Guthrie Pavilion Restaurant overlooking the lake. Mums are in for a treat on Mother’s Day weekend with Whitefriars’ Spring Surprise promotion when mums to check out the latest spring fashions while enjoying a free glass of bubbly and a chance to enter the golden envelope lucky dip. Prizes include books, flowers and cosmetics to Whitefriars pens, keyrings and vouchers. One lucky mum will also walk away with a Whitefriars pamper day worth over £500. Entry to the event in Whitefriars Square is free and runs from 10am to 5pm on Friday, March 24 and 11am to 4pm on Saturday, March 25 and Sunday, March 26.

PENSHURST PLACE

On Saturday March 25, children can create a Mother's Day gift and handmade card in the Old Coach House at Penshurst, while mum explores the gardens, including the Italian Gardens which have 12,500 Jewel of the Spring yellow tulips. On Mothering Sunday you can enjoy Sunday lunch in the Garden Restaurant with a special menu for the day. Craft activities are included in the admission price and are available between noon and 4pm on the Saturday while the Mother’s Day lunch on the Sunday is on a first come, first served basis. You can make Mum feel special by giving her a handmade flower, or treat her to lunch or a cream tea in the Mote Café on Mother's Day between 11am and 3pm.

Spoil your mum with a Mother's Day Afternoon Tea by the sea in the 1920s Ballroom, with an array of scones, cakes and finger sandwiches, plus a selection of teas, or even a glass of Prosecco. Mums get in for free at Port Lympne Reserve and Howletts Wild Animal Park on Mother's Day weekend, with a full-paying adult or child. There are craft sessions for children on both Saturday, March 25 and Sunday, March 26, and the chance to coo over some of the cute baby animals including Mizi the baby black rhino and baby gibbons with their proud mums. There is a Mother’s Day lunch in the Port Lympne Hotel restaurant from noon to 3pm and a Champagne afternoon tea in the hotel from noon to 6pm.
