Tunbridge Wells: Eurovision Song Contest singer Lucie Jones will appear in RENT at the Assembly Hall Theatre

When Lucie Jones steps on stage in Tunbridge Wells later this month, she'll be fresh from another stage - after representing the UK in the Eurovision Song Contest.

The 25-year-old came 15th in last Saturday's final in Ukraine with the song Never Give Up On You.

She fitted her auditions and preparation for the show in around her role in the 20th anniversary tour of RENT the Musical, which stages its finale at the Assembly Hall Theatre in Tunbridge Wells.

The singer and actress appeared on X Factor back in 2009, coming home in eighth place in a year when others taking part included Jedward, Olly Murs, and Joe McElderry.

She won the chance to represent the UK in Eurovision on the BBC2 show Eurovision: You Decide, which also took place during RENT's tour.

The musical, which ran on Broadway for 12 years, tells the story of a group of impoverished young artists struggling to survive in New York City's East Village in the thriving days of Bohemian excess.

Tragically, its writer Jonathan Larson, died the night before the show's first off-Broadway performance in 1996. The revival has been directed by Bruce Guthrie.

The cult musical's final flourish for 2017 will be at the Assembly Hall Theatre, Tunbridge Wells from Tuesday, May 23 to Saturday, May 27. For tickets, visit assemblyhalltheatre.co.uk
