Whitstable: Chris O'Grady hopes to travel the world before he loses sight to rare eye condition

Fitness fanatic Chris O’Grady is hoping to tick off an ambitious bucket list before he potentially loses his sight to a rare eye condition.

The 35-year-old, who has been diagnosed with Doyne Honeycomb retinal dystrophy, took his first steps to reaching his target after leading a non-stop 24-hour workout in a Whitstable gym.

Chris, of Faversham Road, also raised more than £1,000 for charity by sweating it out with 18 other people at the 24FitCentre on the Joseph Wilson Business Park.

He was raising money for the Herbalife Family Foundation who support Action for Children.

“I don’t know how long I have left before I lose my vision, but I’m determined to make the most of every moment and continue living my life with energy, passion and enthusiasm,” he said.

“I’m so excited to have got going and I feel proud to be raising money for a charity that is especially close to my heart.

“It was great to have friends, family and clients come together to support me. It was tough at times but I was incredibly proud of everyone’s efforts.” Among his targets are climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, driving down Route 66 in a Mustang, and learning to paddle board.

Chris said: “There’s still a lot of uncertainty about what lies ahead but I’m adding things to my bucket list all the time to keep me focused. If I can use these pursuits to raise a significant amount of money for charity then I’ll be a happy man.”
