Search for missing dog walker Alan Nichols continues as fears for his welfare grow

Police officers searching for a dog walker missing for almost two weeks say their thoughts are with his family as concerns for his welfare grow.

Alan Nichols, 47, left his home in Whitstable at 6pm on Thursday, June 11 to take his dog for a walk but never returned.

Police were alerted as fears for his safety grew and despite extensive searches, Mr Nichols remains missing 12 days since he disappeared.

Officers are currently scouring Thornden Woods outside Canterbury with dogs and have thanked the public for their support.

DCI Emma Banks said: “Despite extensive searches and inquiries to find Alan, he remains missing and concerns for his welfare are growing. My thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.

“Officers are currently searching Thornden Woods with dogs and we will continue to pursue all lines of inquiry that may help us find him.

“I would like to thank the public for their concern and support but would urge them not to attend the woods while we are searching as any interference could hinder the search efforts.

“I’d also like to thank Kent Search & Rescue who’ve provided invaluable support throughout the investigation.
