Traffic built up on the M20 after an accident involving two cars.
There was congestion on the coastbound carriageway between junctions 9 and 10, both at Ashford.
Highways England said there was also a fuel spillage following the collision.
Traffic was temporarily held and later a single lane closure was put in place.
Kent Police was called to the accident at 6.51am.
Officers, with other emergency services attended, with injuries treated at the scene.
All lanes have been reopened and congestion has cleared.
