Fire at Wye Juniors Football Club pavilion being treated as suspicious

Police and fire crews say a blaze which destroyed a football club pavilion is being treated a suspicious.

The facility at Wye Juniors Football Club was left completely destroyed after a blaze broke out in the early hours of Sunday, June 19.

Police and fire services were called to the club near Scotton Street just after 2am and were battling the flames for more than three hours.

No one was hurt in the incident but it did reportedly leave nearby homes without power.

At the time a spokesman for the club extended their thanks to the member of the public who phoned the fire brigade and said: "We are extremely saddened to inform that the children's football pavilion has been destroyed in a fire."

Following inquiries at the scene, the fire is being treated as suspicious and officers are urging anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the area between midnight and 2.30am that morning to contact them.
