Ashford: Bus bursts into flames near John Lewis off Fougeres Way

A bus burst into flames outside a John Lewis store.

Fire crews and police were called to the scene in Fougeres Way close to the Drovers roundabout in Ashford.

The single-decker vehicle was well alight when firefighters arrived at about 10.15am.

The driver and one passenger were on the bus at the time, but no injuries have been reported.

Two fire engines attended the scene.

It happened on the R line service, which was heading towards Eureka Place from Repton Park.

A spokesman from bus company Chalkwell said: "The driver spotted smoke coming from the rear of the bus and got the passenger off the vehicle.

"It is too early to say what the cause of the fire is, but the bus is due to be returned to the depot where it will be assessed."
