Cat found at St Pancras Station on a Southeastern train from Margate is cared for by RSPCA

A cat mysteriously abandoned on a train to London is now recovering from his ordeal, according to an animal charity.

The black and white feline was found by train staff on Wednesday at St Pancras station in a white and grey carrier.

They launched a Twitter appeal to locate his owner, fearing they may have forgotten their pet on the train, which had travelled from Margate.

But two days later and no one has come forward for him.

Initially the cat was looked after by the Southeastern team, who fed him at their London offices.

But he has now been taken in by the RSPCA and is being looked after by the team at Ashford, who re-named him Steve.

A vet check revealed he is a neutered male, around five years old.

He was not microchipped.

Ian Jubb, manager of the Ashford Garden Cattery, said: “Steve is currently being cared for by our staff and volunteers and seems to be doing well despite his ordeal.

"It must have been quite daunting for him on a noisy train with lots of people coming and going.

“How he came to be left on a train is a mystery, and as yet we are not aware of anyone coming forward to claim him.

“If an owner is not located then we will look to find Steve a new home in due course.”

Paul Prentice, a spokesman for Southeastern, said: “We’re delighted that ‘Steve’ is now in the care of the RSPCA at Ashford after being found at St Pancras International on an incoming highspeed train on Wednesday morning.

"All of our colleagues at St Pancras made sure he was well fed and looked after at the station and our station manager, Steve Butcher, ensured that he was taken care of.

"Everyone at Southeastern hopes that Steve is returned to his owner or finds a new home soon, and we wish him all the best for the future.”

Anyone who may know who owns Steve is urged to contact the branch on 01233 646855.
