Driver dies at mini bus hits house

A 48-year-old mini bus driver died today after skidding off the road into a house in Newingreen, near Folkestone.

The man, who lived near Hythe, was taken to the William Harvey Hospital in a critical condition but died hours later.

The accident, which happened shortly after 6am in Ashford Road, near Hythe, was one of nine accidents attended by South East Kent Police within three hours due to icy driving conditions.

Single vehicle accidents also happened in Alkham Valley Road near Folkestone at 6.35am, Otterpool Lane, Lympne, at 7.05am, Canterbury Road, Lydd at 8.03am, Sandwich Road, Eythorne, at 8.26am and Oak Hill, Woodnesborough at 9.08am.

Two cars were involved in a crash at Grove Road, Preston at 7.44am, and a car and a lorry collided near junction 11 of the M20 at 8.50am and three vehicles were involved in an accident on the A20 near Eurotunnel at 8.57am. No one was seriously injured.

Police would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the accident involving the minibus.
