A driver stood as crews battled the flames which had broken out in the engine of the Mustang, and onlookers reported that it took a large amount of water from the hose reel jet to put out the flames.
The crews left the scene at 1.15pm. Roadworks continue to be in place in Canterbury Road between the Croft Hotel and The Old Mill while gas works are being carried out.
