Crews in 10 engines fight crop fire in Wye, Ashford

Firefighters are currently at the scene of a crop fire in Oxenturn Road in Wye, Ashford.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue Service said there are 10 fire engines at the scene, and "crews are working to extinguish the flames and prevent any fire spread."

It is one of many field fires crews have dealt with in the last few days.

Yesterday, crews in 12 fire engines were called to the field next to Swanton Farm in Lydden, near Dover, just after 7.30pm.

So far this year, Kent Fire and Rescue Service has attended more than 400 grass fires and wildfires, in comparison to just 44 in 2021.
